Keep the North Shore Sane

This blog will be about the North Shore of Oahu. The focus will be on the politics, economics and lifestyle of the North Shore. The North Shore is such a small place, people are often intimidated and do not speak their mind. Here you can speak your mind. I accept guest posts either by name or anonymously as long as they are not obscene. Let's argue, let's be opinionated and let's really dig down into the issues that affect our lives here on the North Shore of Oahu.

Bummer - North Shore Festival Cancelled

I just got the following announcement.

Looks like the finances did not work out for the event formerly known as Sunset on the Beach and last year - The Makahiki Festival. That was always a fun time for all. It's too bad but who wants all those people to come over here anyway??? .... ummm .....well I guess I did.

Haleiwa, HI (October 25, 2007) - Organizers of the North Shore Festival, set to take place at Haleiwa Beach Park, November 10 and 11, as the kick-off to the big-wave winter surf season, regretfully announce today that this year's Festival has been cancelled. All vendor deposits will immediately be refunded in full.

Despite an all-time high in vendor applications and entertainment interest, a short fall of sponsorship dollars prevented the event from moving forward.

"We're sure it is going to come as a bitter disappointment to all the vendors who have submitted their applications, and to the residents of the community who were appreciative of the entertainment. Said Festival organizers, "We would sincerely like to thank all of the sponsors, vendors, members of the community and the surf industry whose enthusiasm for this event was so inspiring.

All deposits will be fully refunded and those vendors who have questions should log on to www.northshorefestival.com and email via the "Contact Us" link. Alternatively, organizers can be reached at: (808) 499-8383.

Serial Protestors vs. The Mormon Church

Based on the news below, I can see a coming confrontation of the mainly Sunset, surfing, Serial Protestors vs The Mormon Church.

My money is on the Mormons.

While the protestors have been preoccupied with Turtle Bay, lots of other stuff is happening in Kahuku and Laie. The Serial Protestor have been busy protesting a 25 home subdivision near Waimea on a long time resident's, private land. Keep up the good fight you all, you're doing great. Way to keep the big picture in mind.

If you think this is the end of the LDS plans for their community - you are wrong.

This just proves to me that the future is coming, we have to adapt and we need a new road from Kahuku to Central Oahu.

Star Bulletin

Mormon church plans 650 Laie homes The land management unit of the Mormon church has purchased 227 acres on North Shore.

The acquisition of 227 acres of agricultural land adjacent to Laie will help an affiliate of the Mormon church develop affordable housing on Oahu's North Shore. Hawaii Reserves Inc., the land management company of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yesterday bought the land for about $4 million from KRC Golf LLC, an affiliate of Turtle Bay Resort owner Oaktree Capital Management LP. It plans to build up to 650 homes on the parcel and adjacent land.
