It's Good To Be King, Maybe...
In watching the most recent Palace Coupe, I thought of the game "King Of The Hill".
It is perhaps one of the simplest and widespread games in the world. If you watch some keiki play, they will push each other around until one gets to be on top, arms raised to the heavens and proclaim their Kingdom. Then they immediately get pushed off and someone else claims the Kingdom. If one strong, big and more aggressive King stays on top for too long, alliances are formed, peons work together and they inevitably push the King off the hill. The partnerships usually last for 10-20 seconds before they try to push their collaborators off the hill so they can be the solo King.
The real world of monarchies is very similar. You the strongest, you get the crown. But the crown is heavy. As soon as you get the crown, be assured that your brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, father, mother, nephew, rival prince, forgotten prince, commoner, basically any wannabe King is going to try and knock you off the hill. If they do, they be the new King.
How do you think Kamehameha united the Islands? He did not negotiate, he kicked some serious booty and he killed a bunch of enemies.
That is how the King business works.
So, if you are King, enjoy the ride. As soon as you get to the top, you are a target.
Good luck.
